Annual EWP Inspections

The annual inspection is a documented examination by a competent person of the machine's structure, boom or scissor stack, slew and drive systems, hydraulics, electrical and control systems, safety devices and interlocks, platform and guardrails, and the condition of its markings and documentation. It applies to boom lifts, scissor lifts, truck-mounted and trailer-mounted EWPs and spider lifts alike, with the detail of the checklist following the equipment class. It sits between the operator's daily pre-start checks and the major inspection that falls due at the 5 or 10 year point depending on class.

Have the logbook and last annual report available, along with any service, repair or defect records since then and the operator pre-start sheets if you keep them. Where the machine has changed hands or been relocated, its serial and compliance plate details let us tie the new report to the correct history. If anything is missing, say so when booking; the inspection still proceeds, and the report notes the gap.

The report lists each system examined and its condition, with photographs of anything of concern and a rating that tells you what must be fixed before the machine is used, what should be scheduled, and what is simply noted. It records the inspector's conclusion on whether the machine is fit for continued service as found. Where defects require repair, that work is quoted separately, and the machine's return to service is confirmed once the repair has been completed and checked.
